Pickled eggs… AWAY!

Since the ladies were away for the evening, I decided that it would be a perfect opportunity to try out a recipe from my The Joy of Pickling cookbook that I recently picked up. 

Sadly, they got home before I was done, and I have been informed that pickling is something that had been relegated to an “outside only” activity. Kristen’s nose disagrees with the smell of the pickling brine cooking.

Very large selection of pickle varieties, and better yet, most of them are small batches!

Some of the pickles in the book are ready in as little as a few hours (“Quick pickles”) and some take several weeks to get to be ready to eat. I’m new into the home preserving game, so this book is a God-send. The directions are simple, the ingredients are readily available, and it sounds like most of the results will be something that my family will devour.

Light weekend reading

While Kristen was out running errands with Kirk and Katie, the mail came. However, I wasn’t paying attention, so they brought it in when they got home.

Side note: Kristen is starting to get freaked out by the numerous packages that are arriving with my name on them lately. Fortunately, there are only a few left pending. One on Monday, which is my water bath canner, and one that will ship on May 5, which is my birthday money from Barnes and Noble.
